Our services for the workplace help individuals reach their career goals.
The Work Plus+ department offers services to assist parents with child support compliance, job placement, job training, educational services, and parenting classes. Our parental courses equip parents with self-awareness, compassion, and a sense of responsibility that every parent needs. These services, along with others we offer, help parents achieve self-sufficiency by being able to provide for themselves and their families. Work Plus+ also offers Work-Force Development services such as the Pay-to-Learn program which offers assistance in enrollment and incentive pay at an hourly rate while participants achieve a short term certificate program. Those programs include, but are not limited to: Commercial Drivers Licensing, Certified Nurse Assistant, Dental Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Welding, Eye Care Assistant, and more. There are also many soft skill trainings and courses offered free to participants in the Work Plus+ program to assist in obtaining employment that provides a livable wage. Work Plus+ serves Houston, Henry, and Dale counties.
ContactThe Community Career Development Center (CCDC) provides life-changing opportunities to the consumers they serve every day. The top priority is helping the consumer prepare for and meet their employment, career planning, and career training needs. In 2022, CCDC assisted more than 800 consumers, helping many with job searching, resume and application completion, training, or other employment related assistance. More than 400 consumers obtain employment during the fiscal year with over 70% retention after the 90-day follow-up. Services provided by the staff in CCDC are geared toward personal growth and development to include: job search assistance; career planning and assessment; job readiness training and workforce development; basic computer training in the computer lab, which has over 30 workstations; academic development; and assistance with college admission and financial aid. There are several workshops offered to prepare consumers for a career. Those workshops include:
BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS: Designed to assist the beginner from turning on the computer, to defining the parts of the computer, to learning the mouse and keyboard, as well as discussing computer safety.
INTERVIEW FOR SUCCESS: Discusses the types of interviews, completing research, knowing yourself, methods for success, practicing for the interview, and the proper way to dress. The workshop is designed to give the job seeker knowledge on how to prepare and what to do or not to do during the interview process.
PAPER APPLICATIONS: Teaches consumers how to properly fill out a paper application – what to do and not to do and what is needed to complete an application.
WORK ETHICS: KEEPING YOUR JOB – Gives job seeker’s knowledge of both good and bad work ethics and identifying reasons for maintaining employment. Includes principles for keeping a job with life examples.
CCDC also offers extended hours on Monday evenings, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
